International companies

B1INTCO
This project explores the factors that determine the internationalisation of companies, such as their export or import activities, their exposure to exchange rate risk and their financial frictions. We are interested in the relationship between companies' financial positions and their foreign trade. These data are essential for answering these questions because they are sufficiently detailed at the firm level. After having characterised the distribution of firms' exposure to exchange rate risk, we would like to study its impact on the transmission of shocks to the economy. For example, we want to quantify the extent to which firms that own foreign financial assets are subject to exchange rate fluctuations, and how this affects their import and export performance. This project will contribute to a better understanding of the factors that influence the global expansion of companies.
