In recent years, start-ups have taken a prominent place in economic news. However, while this concept does correspond to an entrepreneurial reality, it is difficult to find a clear and consensual definition of a start-up in common usage or in economic literature. Depending on the context, the term refers to companies in the early stages, thus young, to companies with rapid revenue or capital growth, to innovative companies, or to all four notions simultaneously.
INSEE Île-de-France wants to analyse the profile of start-ups in the Paris region, particularly industrial start-ups, their potential for creating value and employment, and the profile of employees of the start-ups identified. The approaches will also aim to identify the specificities of start-ups in the Paris region compared to start-ups in France, and also the rest of the Paris region economy.
