This project investigates whether expanding general vs. vocational-track high schools can impact university graduation rates and labor market outcomes, especially for students from less affluent backgrounds. While establishing new university sites has shown positive effects on tertiary education and local labor markets, many significant decisions with long-term consequences are made before attending university. In countries with early educational tracking, students may feel unprepared for university if their secondary education did not adequately prepare them for further studies. This research leverages France's diverse high school system to assess the impact of new general lycées on tertiary education attraction and the extent to which vocational lycées "democratize" secondary education vs "divert" students from further studies.
