Urban transformation in Marseille: the social consequences of renovation policies

POPMARS
This research project aims to determine how residential population movements resulting from urban renovations and gentrification in the city center of Marseille are spatially inscribed in the other neighborhoods of the city and affect their demographic and socio-economic characteristics. Two distinct levels of analysis are considered to provide a comprehensive perspective on the issue: the individual, to visualize the induced intra-urban residentials flows and to distinguish differences in behavior according to social classes; the IRIS, to identify structural population changes. In terms of methodology, the uniqueness of this project lies in its use of quantitative date to address an issue that is typically approached from a quantitative survey perspective. However, this quantitative approach requires precise data at a detailed geographical level.
