INTOUIS
Our research project seeks to understand how non-immigrants in France perceive migrant integration. This is crucial for understanding broader societal responses to immigration. While immigration is often economically beneficial, it consistently triggers cultural backlash. We aim to investigate whether natives define integration through economic success, civic participation, or cultural markers such as language, religious practices, or adherence to laïcité. France is a compelling case due to its colonial history, rising far-right movements, and debates around laïcité in public spaces. The Trajectories and Origins (TeO) survey would let us measure the extent of immigration backlash, i.e. discrimination or racism experienced by respondents. We also plan to develop our own survey to further investigate native perceptions of integration.
