The rise in healthcare expenditures in France, which rose to an exceptional peak during the covid-19 pandemic, leaves the French National Health Insurance (NHI) with the mission to ensure the efficiency of expenditures in the health sector. For that purpose, the NHI is developing analyses of the economic and financial performance of healthcare providers by sector. For now, such analyses have mostly concerned a limited number of sectors such as medical biology and medical transportation. Permanent access to FARE data would give us the opportunity to extend the analyses of economic performance to other healthcare sector, such as radiology and medical devices, and improve knowledge on the economic profile of private healthcare companies under contract with the NHI. Currently, the French NHI is not able to conduct these studies, since it does not have access to any data providing information on the financial accounts data for self-employed and very small companies.
