TikTok is working with CASD to participate in a pilot run by the European Digital Media Observatory (“EDMO”) to test sharing data with researchers under the DSA and TikTok will use the CASD technology and services for the purposes of the pilot.
CASD will provide TikTok with secure bubble technology for secure researcher access to faciliate the end-to-end access procedure, from request to actual access by researchers. The process will take into account the EDMO proposal to set up an Independent Intermediary Body (IIB) to examine access requests. The EU Digital Services Act (“DSA”) requires platforms such as TikTok to share certain data with qualifying researchers.
The pilot’s conclusions should be published in the first quarter of 2024.
