European conference on the quality of official statistics

CASD took part in the 11th European Conference on the Quality of Official Statistics (Q2024) organized by Statistics Portugal and Eurostat in Estoril (Greater Lisbon region) from June 4 to 7, 2024, at which the experiment CASD is running with INSEE on the exchange of documentation metadata to the DDI (Data Documentation Initiative) standard was presented.

This cooperation has led to significant gains in terms of the reliability of data documentation, speeding up the display of documentation on the CASD site and facilitating the reuse of metadata.

Q2024 aims to strengthen and improve cooperation on quality issues in official statistics between statisticians, the scientific community and external stakeholders, and to promote closer dialogue between users and producers.

This year, particular emphasis was placed on the challenges facing official statistics:
– What are the quality issues involved in the growing use of new types of data?
– How can we reconcile the need for statistical rigor with the need to facilitate the use of official statistics, the time required for production and the visibility of official statistics in a world where data sources are multiplying and rapidly accessible on new media?
– How can we better ensure cooperation with the academic world and develop access to microdata for research?

These are all central questions on the role of official statistics as a pillar of democracy, and were the subject of numerous presentations and discussions.
