The COSMOS conference on metadata (data documentation, mainly from official statistics) organized by INSEE was a great success (over a hundred participants and more than twenty countries represented).
The event, which took place in Paris on April 11 and 12, featured a wide range of presentations from NSIs (National Statistical Institutes), academics and other organizations involved in metadata management.
Presentations covered the standards used (DDI, DCAT, SDMX, VTL…), data activation, the role of metadata in the process lifecycle and interoperability.
In particular, the presentation on metadata exchange between Insee and CASD aroused keen interest. The importance of good communication for the successful completion of projects involving different institutions was also emphasized.
The CASD teams would like to extend their warmest thanks to the organizers, and in particular to Franck Cotton for his involvement in the organization of this event, during which he announced his retirement in May.
On the eve of his retirement, we would also like to thank him for all his contributions to data, security, organization and metadata. For many years, he has been a fervent advocate of methodological approaches based on metadata and the best international standards in the field, often having participated in their design.
